Imerys in Pará

Operating in Pará since 1996, Imerys Rio Capim Caulim brought to the State the expertise of the Imerys Group, a world leader in special ore-based solutions for the industry. In 2010, the company acquired Pará Pigmentos S.A. (PSSA) from the Vale Group. With its structure now doubled, Imerys Rio Capim Caulim now has the world’s largest kaolin processing plant and a 71% market share in the production of kaolin in Brazil.

The operations of Imerys Capim include the mining of kaolin in two mines in Ipixuna do Pará city. From there, the ore is pumped in a pipeline to the Company's plant in the city of Barcarena. After beneficiation, the ore is shipped through the private port of Imerys Capim mostly to international markets.

From the mines in Ipixuna do Pará to the plant in Barcarena, kaolin is pumped through two pipelines across the cities of Tomé-Açu, Acará, Mojú and Abaetetuba. Along the way, the pipelines also cross the Acará-Mirim, Acará and Mojú rivers. The pipeline from the RCC mine is 160 km long and that from the PPSA mine is 180 km long, as shown in the map below:
