The Product

Kaolin is made up mainly by kaolinite and is white in color because of its low iron content. It is a white clay, non-flammable, non-toxic ore with no chemical reactivity.

The term "kaolin" stems from the Chinese word kauling (high hill), as a reference to the Jauchau Fu hill, in China, where kaolin has been mined out for centuries. As it is one of the six most abundant ores on earth, it is widely spread and is found in several continents.

Currently, kaolin can be used in the following areas: ceramics, pharmaceutical, power generation, animal feed, agriculture, biofuel, oil, cosmetics, health and hygiene, cement, refractory industry, paints, automotive, plastics, rubber, paper  etc.

Kaolin ranks among the six most exported ores in the economy of Pará State, reaching 19 countries worldwide, being the United States, Canada and Europe the main consumers. In spite of all its importance for the local economy and being an input to many products, kaolin is still unknown to many people.
